I’ll go first.
This week I shared a video on Instagram where I told my IG peeps about a skill I have that I have kept underground for many years. Did you watch it?
Here’s the scoop:
I have been experimenting with channeling sounds, melodies, energies for many years but just shared the experience with friends and a few counseling clients. Channeling? Sounds? Yeah. This is a more intuitive, spiritual side of me.
The sounds vary each time and can be melodic, ethereal, spiritual, shamanic, primal, or funny; usually all of the above. When I sing/channel, people report deep relaxation, meaningful images, spiritual experiences, or particular insights, generally after about 5-10 minutes. The sounds/songs come through me but I have no knowledge of what the listener is experiencing, and yet, I do feel a sweet connection to a loving Source. It has been suggested to me by a few folks that I need to share this beyond my small, safe circle. And, if I admit it to myself, I am curious to know what might develop if I start to offer this channeling to a larger audience.
I have felt weird, freaky, and shy about this over the years but did mention it briefly here on the blog in 2019 when writing about authenticity. A musician on Instagram pointed out to me that it is not odd at all. And when I thought about it, it occurred to me that many musicians, writers, and other artists speak about how their art comes from a Higher Source, channeled through to them. So, I am actually not that unusual!
Here is one person’s experience of my sounds:
“Paula’s sound channeling is mysterious, potent, and powerful. I’ve been working in the spiritual field for ten years and I’ve never encountered anything like it. What blew me away was the immediacy of the ‘result’ of the experience. The first session prompted an instantaneous personal revelation about my relationship to masculinity and a cleansing emotional release simultaneously. I had not wept like that in quite a while. Naturally, I was prepared for a similar experience the second time, but to my delight I was met with a strong and invigorating sense of inspiration regarding the transmutation of anger into creative force. It is absolutely remarkable to me how quickly and how deeply I recognized ‘the message’ when Paula began using what I could only describe as her innate and organic sonic technology. I asked Paula if I could send some clients her way as the thought of not sharing her work felt criminal! …I know it will touch so many in miraculous ways.” nyoka
So, here is my plan: I am exploring ways to record the sounds for sharing on social media. This will take some time. (I have a few samples on Sound Cloud that I put up years ago but they never got any traction. At that time I called them Sound Memes for Your Rainforest Mind.) I am now on TikTok (yes, really) because it was suggested I could reach younger folks who might need to be soothed and nourished by the sounds. I will post on YouTube where I have shared other videos, so if you are limiting your social media, you can find me there. Of course, I will maintain this blog for my usual posts. Don’t worry. I won’t stop writing! After all, I am not ready to become a rock star and open for Pink concerts just yet. I might add a page to the blog with testimonials and news about the channeling. Maybe some samples.
I am not sure if the sounds will resonate with listeners when I just create generic songs. I believe the power comes when I am singing for a particular person. To that end, I am in the process of designing a way for people to contact me if they want a personal 5-10 minute channeling session. Typically, the best way to reach me is by email but I want to be able to manage requests without being overwhelmed and I’m not sure what I’ll charge for individual sessions. So, more to come on that as I figure it out.
OK, dear rainforesters, now it is your turn. You are multipotentialites. You have many interests and abilities. What have you been hiding from us? What has felt weird and freaky that really needs to be expressed? What parts of you have been waiting for their rock star moment?
There is no better time.
To my bloggEEs: Let us know what you think of all this! Tell us about your hidden talents. Thank you for being here. Always love. All ways.
And, speaking of still writing, my third book is now being edited! The cover design process starts this week. So exciting! Just a reminder, it is a journal titled Saving Your Rainforest Mind: A Guided Journal for the Exceedingly Curious, Creative, Smart, & Sensitive. I will keep you posted on progress and when you can order it. Of course, if you don’t have books one and two, what are you waiting for?
(Note: Any of you techy-musical folks who have ideas on how I might set this up with a mic (that has reverb?) and special setting/lighting, how to video for easy sharing on social media, and other tips, please email me.)
